Symptom: Low energy

DESCRIPTION: Fatigue is a general symptom that can be due to a wide range of factors. In our busy lifestyles, lack of quality sleep, stress, limited physical activity, dehydration, and poor eating habits are big contributors. It can also be because of certain medical conditions, chronic pain, excessive exercise, the aging process, or medications. Fatigue is hard to define. You may experience it as low motivation, sleepiness, feeling less alert, muscle weakness, negative mood, or other symptoms. For many people, it is a combination of causes that lead to low energy levels. Take an inventory of the possible factors that may be contributing to fatigue for you and make a plan to address them. Stress, depression, and anxiety can all result in low energy levels and reduced motivation. Generally, try to plan purposeful times of relaxation in your day. Many of the reasons for fatigue can be directly or indirectly related to diet and physical activity habits. Making changes in these areas can turn the tide of fatigue and promote improved energy levels and mood.
